Have you ever been late for a party, in a rush to get ready, opened your jewellery drawer/cupboard/box and seen a tangle of metal chains, which made you not just late but frustrated too? As a keen jewellery and accessories fan there is nothing more annoying, especially as detangling one piece is a challenge...let alone three. This is where knowing how to organise your jewellery comes in really handy.
While sorting through all your jewellery may seem tedious and a task for someone with an eye for a Pinterest-perfect skill for organising or handy TikTok hacks, we’re here with a few quick tips that will completely transform your jewellery and accessories space into something even Marie Kondo would envy and make you into an organisation King or Queen in the process.
So, read on as we unpack how to organise your jewellery in four easy steps!
How To Organise All Your Jewellery:
- Step 1: Go Through All Your Jewellery
- Step 2: Sort
- Step 3: Clean & Repair
- Step 4: Pick An Organiser
- Bonus: Make It Into Artsy Decor
Step 1: Go Through All Your Jewellery
The first and most important step is to gather all your jewellery in one spot. From the bracelets you’ve stashed away since high school and the earrings you can never seem to find when you’re running late to the special pieces you've been given at different milestones in your life — put it all out from the deepest nooks and crannies, keep it together and get it ready for step two.
Step 2: Sort
The next most important step is to carefully make sections based on what you need the most. If you’re the kind of person who changes their daily jewellery a lot depending on what you're wearing, it might be worth separating your jewellery based on occasion. Alternatively, your jewellery can also be sorted based on its function. For example, keeping rings in one location, necklaces in another so forth. This is arguably the most space-effective method and eliminates the possibility of becoming scratched. It's also handy to separate your jewellery based on type as this will avoid the metals in your jewellery interacting with one another chemically and your diamond jewellery scratching your other pieces.
Step 3: Clean & Repair
Now that you've sifted through your jewellery, it's probably not a bad idea to give your jewellery a once over and a bit of a clean. While it's not the most delicate thing in the world, even your jewellery needs a little TLC every now and again to keep it in tip-top shape. Constantly exposed to common puritans including makeup, fake tan, deodorant, perfume and the natural oils that our body produces, so giving your jewellery a little clean every now and again is probably not a bad idea as it will prevent it from dirtying the other pieces in your collection. Cleaning jewellery is easy and relatively cost-effective, not to mention it will help improve its longevity. Particularly, sterling silver jewellery which is prone to tarnishing.

Step 4: Pick An Organiser
Now we're at arguably the most important step, choosing your organiser. The ideal organiser for your jewellery is something that is both space-effective and not too flimsy. We recommend a jewellery box that is sectioned and therefore allows you to place your jewellery into all of the different compartments. Ideally, you will also want space for your longer items such as pendants and chains because they are most likely to become tangled. You should also attempt to find a jewellery box that features cushion rolls for smaller items including rings and stud earrings as this will prevent them from getting stuck or hidden in the corners of your jewellery box. Another tip for when picking the perfect jewellery organiser is to opt for one that is felt-lined and not completely wooden as occasionally the oils in wood treatments can interact with the metals.
Bonus: Make It Into Artsy Decor
We know we've already given you four steps on how to organise your jewellery, but we just couldn't resist this last one. With cutesy stuff like tree-shaped holders, or even DIY chain storing strings, which you can use to hang your earrings on, there is no limit to how your jewellery can accessorise both your look and your room. Have you ever thought of how to give that plain old wall a little bit of ‘pop’? Try this. Take some of your coloured and oxidised pieces (from necklaces to bracelets and anklets) and hang them on this chain or tree. It gives you a wall hanging, a reachable storage device, and a neat appearance all in one! Just remember to store all your jewellery in a cool and dry environment that is out of reach for pets and children.
