To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the classic Seiko Hybrid Diver, Seiko has released three new limited edition models to play on our nostalgia.

The glorious Hybrid Divers watch was made famous by hollywood actor and bodybuilder-supreme Arnold Swarzenneger, who favoured the watch in many of his classic action movies. For that reason, the watch gained the nickname ‘Arnie’ and became a quick favourite.

These new Seiko Prospex watches do a lot more than imitate the original — now forty years old. They arrive armed with new features that make them as powerful as any divers watch on the market, especially for this price range.

Seiko’s brand new Hybrid Divers come in three models: a vintage-diver SNJ035, a classic steel SNJ033P, and the limited edition black steel model SNJ037P. Each of the three pieces has their own flair and additions that make them appealing, but with so much on offer, we’re sure one of them will catch your attention.

Overview:

Steel Prospex Hybrid Diver SNJ033P

All the way back in 1982, Seiko released their first Hybrid Diver; a digital and analogue timepiece built to dive deep. Fast forward to forty years later, and the classic model looks a little different.

This brushed steel edition Seiko diver is outfitted with all the pushers and design elements that make the ‘arnie’ divers so iconic, and makes them a little more elegant. Even still, you rarely see a steel watch with a 47mm case size — a trend followed by the other two 40th anniversary hybrid divers.

Despite all its size, the steel dresses this black dial up nicely. The digital screen sits in a rectangle at the bottom of the watchface, looking stylishly close to the original despite its flipped position. A steel link bracelet offers a smooth wrist-feel, while blue and red accents wrap up this Seiko design nicely.

You might also notice that the pushers have been moved onto the right side of the watch compared to the original, which makes these limited edition Hybrid Divers true collectors pieces.

The second ‘Arnie’ in this limited edition collection keeps the steel make of the first, and adds a sleek black finish. The red and blue accents look even stronger here than in the classic steel version, especially with that sexy red seconds hand.

White highlights contribute to the visibility of the watch, along with the strong LumiBrite that Seiko watches have become known for. The ‘tuna’ styled case also showcases the obvious diving performance that this watch has.

It only takes a glance to realise that this Seiko is a serious diving watch. The silicone strap gives it a vintage dive look, while the ‘Solar’ marking on the dial has been replaced with the ‘PADI’ or Professional Association of Diving Instructors logo.

While all three of these Hybrid Divers share a 200m water resistance, this one will sit the most comfortably over a wetsuit with its strap design. The module and digital features (which we’ll get into soon) of these watches are sublime, and make diving a safer, more enjoyable experience.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Seiko Prospex Hybrid Diver in style, these new watches are ones to remember. They’re powerful, striking in appearance, and just as tough as the original divers.

The limited edition black SNJ037P is a personal favourite, with its high-tech specialist look and red, blue and black contrast. If you want one, you’ll have to act quick, as only 4000 have been released worldwide.

You won’t go wrong with the other two either, as all three Hybrid Divers offer a lot to love. The trio of ‘Arnie’ Seiko watches are available right here — unless they get snatched up soon.
