Seiko have released two new watches to their Cocktail Time collection — the SSA455 and SSA457. Inspired by the famous bartender Hisashi Kishi, owner of STAR BAR, these new models resemble two original cocktails of his creation. The watchmaker and cocktail maker share a strong connection, with Mr Kishi’s creative bar located in the district of Ginza, the very same place where Seiko was founded.
The Seiko Presage STAR BAR releases are some of the Japanese watchmaker’s most unique. Set with ripples across their dials and artistry based on the city of Tokyo, these Seiko Presage watches have become a quick favourite.
Both watches are limited edition, as past entries to the STAR BAR collection have been. Only 5000 editions of each model will be released worldwide, making these creative timepiece’s an exciting collector's item. We’re excited to announce both Seiko Presage watches are available now in very limited quantities at Shiels.
Overview:
Seiko Presage STAR BAR SSA455
Let’s start with the SSA455, inspired by Mr Kishi’s bitters-based white cocktail, ‘Illumine’. The original cocktail has been artfully captured in this Seiko watch’s dial, not just in colour, but also with a cloudly dial texture.
Most interesting of all is the skeleton dial design. Seiko haven’t played it safe with this look, with the open sections of dial rippling out from a balance wheel heart. Inside, you will get a look at the gold-look automatic movement and bright jewels.
Both the SSA455 and red SSA457 share this visage, which stands out not only amongst Seiko’s Cocktail Time range, but all Seiko watches.
Where the ‘Illumine’ STAR BAR watch returns to normality, is in the case and strap. The polished steel finish and smooth leather strap are a staple of the Cocktail Time collection, and fit the dressiness of the Seiko Presage brand nicely. This limited edition model is little more neutral than its counterpart, and could potentially see more use in formalwear. Let’s not count the SSA457 out, though.
Seiko Presage STAR BAR SSA457
The second Seiko STAR BAR release is inspired by Mr Kishi’s ‘Red Brick’ original cocktail. It’s clear to see how the colours of this miraculous drink have been expressed on the Seiko SSA457. Crimson tones burst from the centre of the watchface, culminating in a dark-red or maroon outer edge.
Continuing the design theme, the ‘Red Brick’ features waves of open dial that show the brassy automatic movement underneath. Unlike in the ‘Illumine’ SSA457, which has silver-tone indices, the darker model has gone for gold-tone hands and highlights. This allows the movement to blend better with the overall look of the watch, and showcases the sharpness of the indices well.
Seiko’s Cocktail Time frame and leather strap finish off the design nicely, with the steel adding some lightness and the black leather offering contrast. The mix of colours makes this version of the STAR BAR release a little more particular in styling. If you pick an attire that fits, it’s going to look amazing, but you will find more versatility in the white model.

Final Thoughts
If you’re a fan of the colourful, often surprising Seiko Presage Cocktail Time collection, you’ll love getting to play around with these two new releases. Previous STAR BAR models have been impressive in design, but haven’t reached the heights of captivating design the SSA455 and SSA457 claim.
Both leather watches meet the criteria of a stunning formal watch, perfect for big occasions or long city nights. A nice automatic calibre offers a smooth hand movement and enchanting motion underneath the dial — we won’t blame you if you get caught staring.
As for specs, both have good durability and simple, accurate timekeeping. There aren’t any complications here, which leaves more room for the watch to impress your company.
Both Seiko Presage STAR BAR watches are available now at Shiels, but you’ll have to be fast with a limited number in stock.
